Year End Reprieve: SEC Extends Safe Harbor for Estimating Expected Term

Are you ready to implement FAS 157?

FAS 157 "Fair Value Measurements" became effective on January 1, 2008 and will need to be included in the footnotes of the 1st Qtr 10Qs for the March 31, 2008 close. There has been some good news. AccountingWEB readers face off

Two readers respond to Michelle Golden's blog entry about getting personal attention in a reception area.

Teresa Ambord , A little recognition goes a long way

I find that when I go into any business, I don't mind waiting as long as someone there acknowledges my existence. It's not necessary for everyone to stop and smile or speak to me. But a little eye contact, a friendly smile, and a word or two that assures me I will be helped at the earliest possible time, completely disarms me, especially if I have to wait....

A.S. CPA, New York , This is not a bar, it's a business

I actually think it would be highly inappropriate in a professional business setting for an employee to inquire after a visitor in the lobby. Could they smile and say "Hello," yes. But that visitor could be here on a personal matter, or a secret business transaction (your company is being taken over), or a regulatory investigator....

Publisher's Note

As a big fan of football's Peyton Manning, and the Manning family in general, I was thrilled when I realized that the birth order of the sons spells out "CPE" (Cooper, Peyton, Eli). When the dust from Busy Season clears, many of you will be catching up on CPE requirements. There are so many great options out there these days, it's remarkable.

If you've got a CPE story to tell, it could mean a free AccountingWEB ball cap for you. I'll choose three names at random among those of you who send me your story involving CPE sessions. Funny, scary, unique, spilling Hawaiian Punch on your laptop in the middle of an online CPE class, whatever. Send your story to me at publisher@accountingweb.com. We might publish it ... and you might win a khaki AccountingWEB baseball hat. Life gets no better than this.
