Editor's Note
The times, as they say, are a'changing, and what we think of as
traditional CPE is changing too. It used to be that we could
count on the same types of courses each year. We'd fill our
dance card with different instructors, different venues, and
minor updates in the rules from one year to the next, but
overall, we knew what to expect. It's time to buckle our CPE
seatbelts now, because CPE is taking off in new dimensions and
we're all going to be on board.
Not only are we getting hit with new laws and regulations from
all directions, but the presentations have evolved from the
staid classrooms with flipcharts and overhead transparencies to
state-of-the-art technology with dynamic, interactive, engaging
presentations that keep us involved and make the message more
meaningful. The articles presented in this e-newsletter give you
a taste of what to expect this year, terms of both content and
presentation.
Best regards,
Gail Perry, CPA

Top CPE priorities reflect changes in tax and regulatory environment
Accountants face a serious knowledge challenge and an enormous
business opportunity in Spring 2009, as they prepare to meet
client demand for business and tax consulting services in a
severe downturn and a changed tax environment clearly evident in
the recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

How technology is changing continuing professional education
Twenty years ago, virtually all continuing professional
education (CPE) events were the same - an instructor stood in
front of an audience flipping transparencies on an overhead
projector. To say the least, attention spans were challenged!
Then, in the mid-1990s, things began to change with the advent
of personal computers, data projectors, and presentation software.

Recharge your batteries at a summer conference
Plenty of accounting professionals will hit the road this summer
and attend a conference. Most associations and organizations
schedule their meeting times for summer, after the chaos of busy
season and before we all settle back into a routine in the
autumn. Summer is also the time when we unwind and think about
family vacations. Many people combine work and pleasure by
traveling to a summer conference and bringing the family along
or having family join us when the conference ends.
