As the calendar days start to wind down to April 15/18, accountants keeping their eyes on that deadline are doing just the opposite. This is the final push – the first-half-of-April-crunch, or, as I like to call it, Hell. This is the part of busy season that separates the men from the boys, and I mean that in a purely literary connotation, because no one knows better than I do that there are just as many, if not more, women out there, and everyone is keeping up the same ridiculous pace. Amy Vetter, CPA, CITP, Intuit Key Account Manager, author, speaker, trainer, and member of AccountingWEB's Bloggers Crew, also happens to be a registered Yoga instructor, and has agreed to share some yoga tips that will help you make it through the next two weeks and that you'll enjoy using once busy season is just a stark, cruel, vivid memory.

Chair Yoga – Remembering to breathe!
There is nothing better than integrating Yoga into your daily routine to center and refocus you during your workday.  Throughout the day you may start building tension in your back and neck, maybe due to stress or because you are working at a computer doing repetitive motion in a stationary position for long periods of time.  As a CPA myself, I have found that Yoga has helped me to clear my mind, give me methods to detach from workday stress, and provide a more healthy lifestyle.

Amy has provided us with a 10-step tension release program, so be sure to follow the link below to read the whole program.
  1. Begin by turning off the ringer to your phones and eliminate outside distractions for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Close your eyes, and start becoming more aware of your breath.  Bring your lips together, relax your face and begin inhaling through your nose, and exhaling through your nose.  Repeat 5 times.
  3. Listen to your breath and then slow your inhales and exhales to 3 counts.  Follow your breath internally and watch it as you inhale (1) through your nose, (2) down your throat and (3) into your belly.  Then watch your breath as you exhale (1) from your belly, (2) back up your throat and (3) out your nose.  Repeat this 5 times.
