Editor's Note
The recent economic downturn has most people pretty confused. We'll continue to address related issues of importance to accountants in the weeks to come. But in the meantime, it might just be the small things that count. Check out this week's story on promoting your business on YouTube for some quick insights on the usefulness of this site for entrepreneurs. Also, take a look at Bruce Katcher's tips on the advantages of operating a business from home. Changes to the economic Big Picture might seem out of your control, but looking for ways to improve your own business is always a good idea.

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable

by Patrick M. Lencioni
After her first two weeks observing the problems at DecisionTech, Kathryn Petersen, its new CEO, had more than a few moments when she wondered if she should have taken the job. But Kathryn knew there was little chance she would have turned it down. After all, retirement had made her antsy, and nothing excited her more than a challenge. What she could not have known when she accepted the job, however, was just how dysfunctional her team was, and how team members would challenge her in ways that no one ever had before.

Earlier versions of Excel referred to this as AutoFilter, and tucked it way under the Data menu. Energy Credits
A company that proposes to install solar panels has computed the amount of the credit based upon cost before any rebates that are offered. In my experience, rebates reduce basis and therefore, reduce the amount of the credit. Are you allowed to treat the rebates as other income rather than reduce basis?

Check entering complaints
When entering checks in Microsoft Accounting, the current date always pops up, which means you have to type in the complete date for each check unless it happens to be the actual date. Also you cannot type in whether it is a check or an EFT, and you have to type in each check number, there is no automatic next number. If someone can help me change the defaults, please do it.
