Some people carry way too many gadgets through airport security. Recently at Midway Airport in Chicago, there was a guy in front of me juggling a laptop, an iPhone, a second basic phone of some type, an iPod, and what appeared to be a Kindle e-book device. This was all in addition to his two carry-on pieces of luggage. Needless to say, it took this tech-dependent fellow forever to get through the TSA maze.
What do you usually take on business trips? According to a Conde Nast Traveler magazine survey, heres a summary of the electronic items travelers take with them on business trips:
- Laptop 74%
- Noise-Canceling Headphones 33%
- BlackBerry 27%
- iPhone 26%
- E-Readers 12%
- iPad 8%
- Netbook 7%
Ill bet this same survey will show the nifty little iPad at a much higher percentage this time next year. AccountingWEB soon will have an app for the iPad and also for the Kindle. Stay tuned for an upcoming announcement. You can view our sites as you try to proceed through airport security.

It isn't an adversarial relationship |

Testing is not fun for students or professors, but it's important. Employers and accrediting agencies want to know that students have learned something. For accountants, it's even more important because we need to prepare for a profession that requires passing difficult certification exams to progress in our careers. |

Government pensions are in trouble |

A couple of the most compelling reasons that talented individuals stay in government are the benefits and the stability. Envious, I have attended a flurry of retirement parties this year. My colleagues have put in their time and are blissfully able to move on to second careers under the support of a state pension. But these pensions are expensive and risky…and troubled. |
